Logan amusement ride maker opens new attraction

The year-old Soaring Eagle Zip Line Inc. of Logan opened its first public zip line attraction Thursday at the Miller Motor Sports Park in Tooele. Stan Checketts, the inventor and owner of Soaring Eagle Zip Line, said the ride is designed for people of all ages. Riders are belted two abreast and he said one requirement is that the combined weight of the two riders fall between 150 and 450 pounds. “What sets this design apart is that you can load or unload at the top or the bottom, which is very unusual,” said Checketts. “It’s a fun experience, it’s not like a big terrifying ride across a canyon or something. We don’t do anything longer than about 900 feet. Some zip lines go up to 2000 to 3000 feet. We’re not interested in that.” Checketts said it is not a speed ride. “We’re just interested in providing a fun family thrill, no faster than about 28-30 miles an hour.” He said at the bottom, at the ride’s conclusion, an oversized spring system brings the cart to a stop. Then riders are pulled back up the mountain, making the trip in reverse. For more information about the new ride, and to see how it works, visit
