Utah begins campaign to curb aggressive driving

MURRAY, Utah (AP) – The Utah Highway Patrol is putting troopersin big rigs in an enforcement campaign to curb aggressive andunsafe driving around tractor-trailers. UHP Lt. Bruce Pollei tells the Deseret News the TicketingAggressive Cars and Trucks effort aims to reduce crashes involvingcars and large trucks. A federal grant is funding extra troopers to ride in twotractor-trailers to spot drivers who cut too closely in front of,follow too closely behind, or improperly merge into traffic aroundbig rigs. Troopers in the trucks radio to patrol vehicles to pulloffending drivers over. Pollei says trucks can’t stop as quickly as passenger cars. Hesays some truckers also drive aggressively. The enforcement effort is planned over the next several weeks onInterstate 15 between Sandy and Salt Lake City.
