A government shutdown was avoided last weekend when Democrats and Republicans finally reached an agreement on this year’s budget. The next big vote will be on whether or not the debt ceiling should be increased as it has been every year.Outgoing Cache County Republican Party Chairman David James said we need to raise the debt ceiling because, unfortunately, we don’t have a budget to support the alternative.”I agree with them in saying ‘OK we’ll raise the debt ceiling if we have specific plans in place to address this over long term.’ In other words, we’re not going to make it a do-or-die moment, but we are going to make it a moment where we begin the turning or we continue the turning back into the right direction.”James said he feels that it is the appropriate position to take right now and to do otherwise would not be responsible.
