SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — About 700 women in Utah are participating in a national study to improve children’s health and development. The National Children’s Study is enrolling 37 communities across the country to examine the effects of environmental influences on 100,000 children. It will follow the children from before birth to age 21. Officials began enrolling participants in Salt Lake and Cache counties late last year by sponsoring college sporting events and partnering with local businesses. The information will be used to understand childhood diseases such as asthma, autism and diabetes.
