Avalanche victim’s keepsakes stolen from widow

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police are searching for leads in the theft of sentimental keepsakes from the car of the widow of a Utah avalanche victim. The Deseret News of Salt Lake City reports two of Garrett Smith’s antique cameras were stolen from the car of his widow, Molly, outside her Salt Lake City apartment sometime late Thursday or early Friday. The 26-year-old Smith died Sunday, a day after he and two others were rescued from a steep slope in the Manti La-Sal National Forest. Family members say someone smashed a window to gain entry to the car and steal the cameras. While the cameras are not worth a lot of money, they have great sentimental value to Molly Smith and she wants them back. Garrett Smith was a professional photographer.
