2011 legislative session good for Utah’s counties

All in all, Cache County Executive Lynn Lemon believes the 2011 session of the Utah legislature was a positive one for counties.Lemon says there were things that did not happen that he was very grateful did not happen. For example, he says there was a proposal to change the restaurant tax to a general sales tax.”I was opposed to that because the restaurant tax, whether we agree or not, is optional,” Lemon explains. “You don’t have to go out and eat. But a general sales tax is not optional. “You end up paying that regardless because people have to buy essentials like food and some other essential items. So I really favor it being left on restaurant tax rather than a general sales tax.”Lemon says the county also received some jail reimbursement money but not as much as it had requested from the legislature.
