A 58-year old Millville woman reportedly fell asleep at the wheel Sunday morning while driving westbound on U.S. 89 near USU’s campus. Logan Police Asst. Chief Jeff Curtis says the incident happened at 10:20 a.m. as the woman was driving down the hill of 400 North. She reportedly crossed three lanes of traffic into oncoming lanes, and went over the embankment near one of the parking lots and underpass tunnels on the south side of campus. Curtis says the woman’s 2008 Ford Edge continued down the hill and crashed into some trees close to the canal. The woman was wearing a seat belt and the vehicle’s airbags deployed, but she was able to get out of the vehicle on her own. She was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries and scratches. A pet dog traveling with her was uninjured. Curtis says no one else was affected by the crash, and it could have been much worse than was.
