DUI crash critically injures passenger

A 28-year old Logan woman was critically injured just after midnight Sunday morning in what Utah Highway Patrol troopers are calling a DUI crash. 26-year old Sheldon Paul Staggie, of Logan, was driving northbound on State Road 23 near Mendon, when he reportedly lost control of the car and left the roadway, crashing into the ditch. Hannah Lee Wynn, a front seat passenger, was subsequently pinned and had to be extricated from the vehicle. She was later transported by helicopter to an Ogden area hospital. Neither Staggie nor Wynn were wearing seatbelts. Staggie received a minor shoulder injury and was transported to Logan Regional Hospital. A UHP press release states Staggie was booked into the Cache County Jail following his release from the hospital and charged with Driving Under the Influence involving serious injury, obstructing justice and several other traffic-related charges.
