Cache County SWAT and Logan City Police Departments received valuable training at houses scheduled for demolition on 1000 West in Logan. The homes are in the path of the Utah Department of Transportation’s widening project. Sheriff’s Lt. Chad Jensen says UDOT gave the sheriff’s department permission to use the homes for training purposes February 24 and 25. He says the Logan Police Department was able to train at least once as well. Jensen says UDOT allowed access on the condition that law enforcement notified neighbors of the training, and then buttoned up the homes after it was done. He says SWAT regularly trains once a month, but usually it is in burned out barns or farm houses, so having these homes provided prime training grounds that reflect what many SWAT situations bring. Jensen says anytime they get an opportunity like this, they jump on it. Just last month the sheriff’s office trained in an abandoned home in Lewiston. Jensen says exercises at the locations included breaching, or gaining access to windows and doors, and room clearing.
