Farm Bureau and USDA want to teach people how to shop strategically

During this time of economic squeeze is it possible to feed your family healthy, nutritious meals and still stay within your budget? The Utah Farm Bureau thinks so and it is joining with the American Farm Bureau and the U.S. Department of Agriculture in promoting Food Checkout Week February 20-26.According to Utah Farm Bureau Director of Communications Matt Hargreaves Food Checkout Week occurs each February when the average American family has earned enough disposable income to pay for their year’s supply of food. By comparison, it takes until April to earn enough money to pay your taxes.Food Check-out week is aimed at helping consumers learn how to shop strategically to put nutritious food on the table with fewer dollars. As part of Check-Out Week, the Farm Bureau sponsored a contest asking questions about the amount of money spent on food. Those with correct answers were entered into a drawing for a $500 five-minute grocery shopping spree on Tuesday, February 22.
