LOGAN, Utah – Utah State’s Hailey Swenson was honored as the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week award, as selected and announced Tuesday by the conference office. With the honor given to Swenson, Utah State pushes their total WAC player of the week awards to six this week. Swenson, a senior who hails from North Salt Lake City, Utah (Woodscross HS), went undefeated in singles actions this past week. Swenson faced WAC-rival No. 39 Boise State on Friday, Feb. 4 and Portland State on Saturday, Feb. 5. Swenson’s match against Boise State’s No. 2 position player Sonia Klamczynska is one that will not soon be forgotten, as she was able to capture the lone point for Utah State in jaw-dropping fashion. Swenson won the opening set over Klamczynska, 7-5, Klamczynksa answered back by winning the second frame and forcing a tie-breaking set. Klamczynksa jumped out to a commanding lead over Swenson in the tie-break, 7-1, before Swenson mounted an unprecedented comeback. Swenson won 10 of the next 12 points for a come from behind tie-break win over Klamczynska, 11-9. With the victory Swenson captured the solo point of the match for the Aggies. Swenson took the momentum from her match with Klamczynska and used it the following day as she defeated Portland State’s Anay Dalkin in the No. 2 position, as well as winning in doubles action. Swenson never surrendered a set against Dalkin as she swept the match in dominating form, 6-0, 6-0. Swenson and the Aggies play next Friday, Feb. 18 as they travel to Las Vegas, Nev. to take on the UNLV Rebels, followed by a match with the UC Riverside Highlanders on Saturday Feb. 19.
