LOGAN, Utah – Following a pair of Western Athletic Conference road wins at Boise State (68-59) and Fresno State (52-39) last weekend, Utah State climbed in both top 25 polls this week and is now ranked 31st in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll with 24 votes and 38th in the Associated Press Poll with 22 votes. Utah State is also among the best defensive teams in the nation as it currently ranks ninth nationally in rebound margin (+8.7), 10th in winning percentage (.889), 11th in scoring defense (58.2) and 16th in field goal percentage defense (.384). Senior forward Tai Wesley (Provo, Utah) is also among the national leaders as he currently ranks fourth in the nation in field goal shooting at 63.6 percent. Wesley also ranks third in the Western Athletic Conference in rebounding (8.3), sixth in blocked shots (1.06), seventh in scoring (14.5) and 12th in assists (2.61). Utah State is currently riding a season-high 11 game winning streak which ranks tied for the seventh-longest active winning streak in the nation, while its 16 wins this year also ranks tied for seventh nationally. Overall, USU has won 31 of its last 33 regular season games dating back to last year. With its 52-39 win at Fresno State last Saturday, Utah State has now won 19 straight WAC games dating back to last season which is tied with the Utah teams of 1998 and 1999 for the longest league winning streak in conference history. Utah State (16-2, 5-0) returns home this week as it hosts Louisiana Tech (9-10, 0-5) on Thursday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m., and New Mexico State (10-9, 4-1) on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 9 p.m. USU’s game against NMSU will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
