Logan Regional begins new cancer support group

A new, no-cost Cancer Support Group/Education Series is about to begin at the Logan Regional Hospital Cancer Center. Those in the community with cancer and adults supporting them are invited. Marilyn Teuscher is Social Work Manager at Logan Regional Hospital. “We are excited to provide this service to the cancer patients in our community,” said Teuscher. “Many cancer patients tend to have a lot of problems that go with that diagnosis. The concerns they have are unique to their situation. We feel this support group can provide a setting in which cancer patients can talk about living with cancer with others who may be having similar experiences.” Teuscher said Ogden’s McKay-Dee Hospital provides a cancer support group regularly. “We talked with them and saw that we needed one here in Logan, as well. We also met with the American Cancer Society Patient Navigator to develop a program.” Teuscher said the cancer support group series would include six different topics. “A couple of guest speakers will come to our sessions. We’re planning this year to have three, eight-week sessions throughout the year.” She said the series begins January 18, meeting Tuesdays, noon to 1 p.m., in the Education Center at the hospital’s Cancer Center. A light lunch will be provided. “In addition to the topic for each session, it is primarily to provide support to each other. Hopefully the patients will get to know each other and listen to their stories and learn what they have done to cope with this diagnosis.” Those interested in attending should call the Logan Regional Hospital Cancer Center, 716-6400.
