County council chairman updates canal progress

As the new chairman of the Cache County Council Jon White is hoping 2011 will be a year of getting some important projects completed. For example, White says, it has taken a long time to come up with road standards and he’s hopeful that issue will soon be resolved.White says it may be because he’s a farmer but he has strong feelings about how slow things have been moving on the major canal reconstruction project. He says it is causing a real hardship on many farmers who are expected to produce the same amount of crops with about half as much water.”The county will be the sponsor, which we’re willing to do,” White explained. “But there are so many steps that people aren’t necessarily affected, only the aesthetics and the beauty of what they like, and it’s creating a real hardship for farmers and for the income of this county. “Agriculture is a big part of this county. I’d like to see us get that moving.”A preferred site has yet to be decided for the multi-million dollar project that came about following a landslide that killed three people when a canal broke on Logan’s Canyon Road. A resident of Paradise, White is starting his third year as a member of the county council.
