Local GOP chair has mixed feelings about lame duck Congress

Surprisingly, Democrats and Republicans worked together on some big issues prior to the closing of the lame duck session in Congress and those issues included tax cuts, unemployment benefits, gay rights in the military, a nuclear arms treaty with Russia, food safety and health care for 9-11 first responders.Cache County Republican Party Chairman David James says he has mixed feelings about what was accomplished.”I’m glad they extended those tax cuts,” James exclaimed. “They threw an awful lot of spending in with it. The one spending bill, fortunately, didn’t make it through. “But it still seems like we’re not really making any serious attempts to reign in our spending and get spending under control.” James says when Congress comes back there will be a great deal of budget work to be done because technically this year’s budget has actually never been completed and now it will be worked on along with the budget for the 2011 fiscal year.
