Holiday event combines art, science for children

You can try your hand at pendulum sand art or operating a robot arm at Faraday’s Holiday event Tuesday night. The festival of art and science runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Whittier Community Center. Children and adults are invited to the fundraiser which will help establish a children’s museum in 2012 in Cache Valley. The festival also supports the StarHouse Discovery Center which presents planetarium shows and educational science activities in valley schools. Faraday’s Holiday Event is named for Michael Faraday, an English scientist of the 1800s who would invite London children to a lively hands-on holiday event spotlighting his new discoveries. At 7 p.m. USU Astronomy Professor Shane Larson will give a brief keynote address. At 7:15 Neil Dabb of the Discovery Center will demonstrate electricity experiments children can do with the extra LED lights found in Christmas light sets.
