GARLAND, Utah – The Wasatch Wasps proved why they’re the #1 team in 3A and a serious threat for the 3A title. Mike Brown is their proof. Brown had 22 points and Wasatch pulled away in the 4th quarter to escape Bear River with a 51-42 win over the Bears. Derek White scored 10 points for the Bears who fall to 2-8 in a season where many of their games have been close but there has always been a killer in each of those losses, and often it was the lack of made free throws. Tuesday night Bear River head coach Casey Winters felt that his team was lacking energy, he thought that was the same problem Wednesday night. “We were down by four at one point then kind of let our energy go,” Coach Winters stated after the game. “We need to finish strong and be 100% confident on the court.” Wasatch point guard Mike Brown didn’t have any problems with his confidence. After letting the Bears claw from a 10 point deficit to four with about five minutes left in the game, Brown took over with a nifty layup, deep jump shot, then a nice feed to his center for a layup and one free throw, all within 2 1/2 minutes. The scoring spurt pushed the Wasatch lead to 11 and they never let it get closer than nine the rest of the night. The Bears have a week off then get back to the court with a rematch against the Box Elder Bees on Thursday, Dec. 30 at 7p.m.
