Lemon defends proposed salary increases

A public hearing on the proposed 2011 budget will be held in connection with a meeting of the Cache County Council Tuesday. The meeting starts at 5 p.m. and the public hearing is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.County Executive Lynn Lemon says he is proposing salary increases for the county’s elected department heads who went without a raise last year.”There was efforts on the part of departments to be careful with what they spent,” Lemon says, “and I appreciate that. I really do appreciate the work that everyone has made to try to keep our budgets in balance. “I think I’m seeing the same thing this year. Right now we are saving almost $300,000 in payroll costs through the year.”Lemon says compensation for the County Auditor, Treasurer, Clerk and Recorder have fallen below salaries for officers in other smaller counties.Both Auditor Tamra Stones and Recorder Michael Gleed are actually drawing full retirement in addition to their county salaries.
