Logan Municipal Council discusses rezoning Herm’s Inn for commercial neighborhood use

Logan Municipal Council discussed rezoning land known as Herm’s Inn, 1420 East Canyon Road, for commercial use during a council meeting Tuesday. The area in question is .34 acres, with a 990 square-foot historical building, said Logan City Community Development planner Kristen Clifford. If the property is rezoned, the developers intend to restore the historic building for commercial or retail use. The zone change is not intended to increase traffic in the area, Clifford said, but to provide another area for residents to shop, work and play. The commercial space could be used for a variety of businesses from medical practices to a small convenience market. Councilmember Holly Daines said she has received a lot of feedback since the beginning of rezoning discussions. Many see the rezoning as a safety issue. Daines suggested looking at sidewalks or speed bumps in order to keep Canyon Road safe. Daines said she is interested in hearing more feedback from the residents regarding what they’d like to see done. A public hearing about the rezoning will be held at the next council meeting at 5:30 Nov. 2 in City Hall, 290 N. 100 West. – rachel@cvdaily.com
