Utah’s top education official was in Logan on Wednesday where he made a visit to the English Language Training Center. State School Superintendent Larry Shumway says the Center is doing great things for the refugee community. On KVNU’s For the People program, Shumway said an announcement is coming soon about a wonderful contribution to the center from a Utah company that produces software. Shumway says wonderful things are happening at the English Language Training Center. Asked about the state of education in Utah, Shumway said Utah does a great job of educating students in spite of having less money to work with than any other state. Shumway said excellence in education is a must if the state is going to atract good jobs in the fture. Shumway says the Governor’s panel on education has recommended that 66% of high school graduates go on to higher education. He says Utah is very close to meeting that goal.
