Lemon: mayors expressing concerns about countywide library system

Should the Cache County Council establish a countywide library system? That is the non-binding question that will be on the ballot when Cache County local residents go to the polls on November 2. Supporters of the countywide system have said no city or town that did not want to support the proposal would be forced to be part of the system. However, Tuesday night Cache County Executive Lynn Lemon told the Cache County Council that some of the mayors are expressing concerns about something they heard from Library Committee member Ronald Jenkins. “He took the position that anybody that doesn’t have a library, Paradise, Wellsville, whoever, if the county was to enact a countywide library system that all the communities that did not have libraries would be part of that,” Lemon explained. “I think that was the thing that concerned them the most.” Lemon says some mayors were also concerned about employees of local libraries losing their jobs, which committee members say would definitely not happen. Jenkins, who is also Director of the Logan Library, will be a guest on KVNU’s Crosstalk show Thursday to talk about the ballot proposal and how a countywide library system would work.
