Police: NYC mosque’s imam, wife get death threats

NEW YORK (AP) – New York police confirm that an imam planning anIslamic community center and mosque near ground zero and his wifehave received death threats.Daisy Khan revealed the threats during a discussion of Islam onABC’s “This Week” news program.She said the mosque would be a moderate counterweight to Islamicextremism, but warned that if Muslim moderates are brandedextremists they’ll be thrown into the arms of al-Qaida.Khan and other Muslims were joined on the program by critics ofIslam, including The Rev. Franklin Graham. He said that whileMuslims have a right to build a mosque near ground zero, theyshould be “more sensitive to the feelings of many people.”Graham noted that many Muslim countries don’t allow churches orsynagogues to be built.
