Aggie men’s tennis completes action the USU Invitational

LOGAN, UTAH – Utah State completed action at the USU Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 25 with sophomore Sven Poslusny taking the consolation singles title. Teams from Portland State, Weber State and Northern Arizona joined the Aggies at the Utah State Outdoor Tennis Courts. The singles draw will conclude at Weber State with a match between the Wildcats’ Simon Unger and Landon Barlow at a to be determined date. The Aggies dominated the consolation singles draw. Senior Alex Thatcher advanced to the finals after defeating Andrew Whiting (unattached), 6-2, 6-3, in the semifinal round. Poslusny also advanced to the finals after Northern Arizona’s Dominic Bermudez withdrew. Poslusny defeated Thatcher in the finals, 6-3, 7-6, to take first place in the consolation singles draw. Poslusny is now 5-1 on the season. Utah State seniors Jakob Asplund and Bryan Marchant were the sole Aggies to advance to the semifinals in doubles competition. Asplund and Marchant fell to Weber State’s Simon Unger and Matt Davis, 9-8 (5). USU continues tournament action this fall with the Utah Invitational in Salt Lake City on Thursday, Oct. 14 through Saturday, Oct. 16. Singles Consolation SemifinalsAlex Thatcher (USU) def.
