LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Utah State University’s lighted “A” on top of its Old Main building is getting an energy-efficient makeover.New LED strips that will use a quarter of the power of the old neon lighting are being installed. On Tuesday, technicians from Young Electric Sign Company began making the changes. Work is scheduled to continue for two to three weeks.Stanley Kane, Utah State’s architect and director of operations, says there won’t be a noticeable difference to the white light, but the blue light will have a more intense color. The new lights cost about $81,000, but university officials say they will eventually pay for themselves because they last longer and use less energy.
