Construction on a new and improved clubhouse at Logan River Golf Course could start as early as mid-September following approval this week by the Logan Municipal Council. Logan River Golf Pro Jeff John said it was not an easy decision for the council to make. “No, I don’t think it was,” he said. “When finances are a consideration it’s a tough decision. They had to weigh all sides. I think they came out with the right decision. Our course is great, it’s challenging, and it’s one of the best in the state. But the clubhouse doesn’t match up anymore, it’s worn right out.” John said the new clubhouse would include the existing basement, but not much else. “We will keep the basement, everything from the solid concrete floor down, the cart room and everything. The top will be added on to, we’ll have a new pro shop, new snack bar area and then some men’s and ladies club reception areas for after-tournament gatherings and business functions.” John said the new facility creates new possibilities at Logan River. “What is allows me to do is put out to bid for things like the ladies and mens state amateur tournaments, events that without hosting facilities and reception areas we can’t compete for.” Originally a 20-year bond allowed for the construction of the Logan River Course and clubhouse. “The bond expires next April,” said John, “and we’re taking advantage of current building costs and a few good timing issues to start now so that by next April when it’s paid for, the building can begin to be paid for again by excess revenues from the course like receptions and outside tournaments, things like that.” John said expections are that by May or early-June the new clubhouse would be completed. John said at Tuesday’s council meeting approval was sought for a loan of $1.5 million. “The total cost of the building could be considerably less than that. We’ll put it out for bid and see what we get.”
