Transcontinental railroad and Golden Spike topic of Visitors Bureau lecture

Richard Felt, a regional historian and expert on the building of the Transcontinental Railroad, will speak Wednesday as part of the Cache Valley Visitors Bureau’s Summer Speaker series. Mike Bullock of the Visitors Bureau says Felt will speak at 7 p.m. in the historic Cache County Court House and the presentation is free and open to the public.Bullock says Felt has been a member of the May 10 Golden Spike re-enactment for 41 years and director for 39 years. Felt has twice been selected as keynote speaker at the Golden Spike celebration.”He’s going to talk a little bit about the history of the transcontinental railroad,” Bullock says. “He’ll talk particulary about the completion. “They were nearing the Promontory area there where they finished up and he’ll also not only talk about the history of the railroad but also about the national historic site there and some of the re-enactments over the years.”Bullock says Felt has served on the Brigham City Council, the Brigham City Planning Commission and the Brigham City Historic Preservation Committee since 2004. He spent his career teaching at Box Elder Junior High School and at the Adele C. Young Intermediate School.
