James: Focus on Utah’s immigration problem, not everyone else’s

Immigration issues have been receiving a lot of media coverage and the chairman of the Cache County Republican Party says the issues have been inflaming a lot of passion. David James says he would like to see some of the rhetoric toned down. James admitted there are issues with immigration that need work. “But, more than anything, I would like to see Utah focus on Utah’s problems, not Arizona’s problems, not Texas’s problems, not anyone else’s problems,” James says. “I think that we are a unique state. It’s why we have 50 individual states.” James also expresses a frustration with some people within his own party on this issue. “We have people who cry, ‘state’s rights,’ and then they want to run around copying what other states are doing,” he continues. “I’m not sure that’s exactly the best approach for things.” James says he feels there are some unique situations in Utah that deserve attention within the context of the state of Utah.
