Hyde Park’s Pioneer Day celebration opens Friday with a picnic in the park at 6:30 p.m. on Center Street Church Square and street dancing to the music of Josh Hilton. A flag ceremony at 9:30 p.m. will be followed by what officials call “the best fireworks in the valley.” On Saturday, there is a Fun Run at 7 a.m. followed by a flag raising ceremony at the Civic Center at 9 a.m. The Pioneer Day Parade on Center Street starts at 10 a.m. Dodge Ball Mania starts at 11 a.m. on the tennis courts behind the Civic Center. Activities on the square include cycle-cross bicycle race at Lions Park, free rides for the kids, entertainment and a 3 p.m. Pioneer program downstairs at the Civic Center.
