The month-long spring open burning season runs through May 15 and Cache County Fire Chief Rod Hammer reminds residents that permits are issued only on the day of burning. Burn permits are not issued on days when the air quality clearing index is below 500 or the health department declares a yellow or red burn day. Hammer says people need to be especially careful this year because last year’s wet spring created a heavy fuel load this year. He reminds the public that burning of household or construction waste, rubbish, cardboard, plastics, tires, hazardous chemicals, fuels and other processed or man-made materials is prohibited. Someone 18 or over must be with the fire at all times.
