LOGAN – Applications are now being accepted for Utah State University’s fourth annual Chemistry/Biochemistry Summer Internship for high school students. Conducted by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, the intensive four-day program, slated for July 6-9, offers aspiring chemists hands-on opportunities in cutting-edge research. “The internship enables teens to work alongside USU faculty researchers,” says Alvan Hengge, professor, department head and internship coordinator. “Participants will have the opportunity to get involved in an ongoing research project and learn about careers related to chemistry and biochemistry.” The internship is open to high school students who have completed at least one year of high school chemistry. Participants are selected for the internship based on a written statement of interest. Cost is $50, which includes campus meals and housing, along with materials and recreational activities in the evenings. “This is an excellent opportunity for teens to experience college life, while exploring their interests at the university level,” Hengge says. In addition to academic activities, interns will participate in evening recreational activities with USU undergraduate and faculty mentors.
