EPHRAIM, Utah (AP) — The Utah State Board of Regents has approved a 1.5 percent increase in tuition for Utah’s public colleges and universities for the 2010-11 academic year.The schools also get to propose their own tuition increases through their boards of trustees. Those must be approved by the Board of Regents. For example, the University of Utah is raising its tuition 8 percent beyond the 1.5 percent hike.The average total tuition increase systemwide is 8 percent, or $294 in annual tuition for 15 credit hours for two semesters for an undergraduate resident.The Regents met Thursday in Ephraim at Snow College.The tuition increase applied systemwide is to cover additional employee health and retirement costs not funded by the state.
