Watts signs declaration designating April as Child Abuse Prevention Month

A proclamation has been signed by Logan Mayor Randy Watts designating April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. Child and Family Support Center Director Estherlee Molyneux told the Logan City Council Tuesday night that the theme this year is “Stepping Up for Children.” She told the council a lot of events have been scheduled to increase awareness of the problems of child abuse. “First of all, on April 1st we are having our first ever Stepping Up for Children campaign and we’re challenging every city council to send a representative to this event,” Molyneux explained. “What that is, we are putting a pair of shoes on the courthouse steps for every child who has had a substantiated case of child abuse or neglect over the past year. So in our county that number would be 237.” A brief presentation will be made by Cache County Attorney James Swink prior to a ribbon cutting ceremony. Molyneux says several exciting fundraising events are scheduled during the month of April, including their annual Spot the Flock, Blue Ribbon Benefit Dinner and Auction. She says the mission of the Child and Family Support Center is to strengthen families and protect children.
