The second annual Dine Out to Defeat Hunger night is coming up on Tuesday, February 23rd and eight local restaurants participating in the fundraiser will be donating part of their proceeds to the Cache Community Food Pantry.Pantry Director Matt Whittaker says the depressed economy has resulted in record numbers of people coming to the pantry for food this year because of lost jobs, slashed wages and canceled medical benefits. He says an expansion of the food pantry has become not just a wish but a necessity and that’s where the evening’s proceeds will go.”We’re appealing to the CDBG grants through Logan City,” Whittaker explained on KVNU’s Crosstalk show Wednesday. “We’re going to be seeking other funds through the LDS Foundation, Eccles Foundation, a couple others that I’m not too familiar with yet.”But we’re hoping to get good commitments. And if I can see that we have some good commitments, I’m hoping to break ground as soon as late summer.”Whittaker says the restaurants involved with Dine Out to Defeat Hunger night are the Coppermill, Elements, Angie’s, Cafe Sabor, Hamilton’s, Firehouse Pizza, Texas Roadhouse and Iron Gate Grill. Those who bring a canned food item to the Coppermill will get a free dessert.
