It is always a popular event: the Whittier Community Center’s annual fundraiser “Vittles and Fiddles.” It’s coming up on Saturday and Marsha Rawlins, president of the center’s board of directors, says you can expect an evening of good food, good music and good company. “We have a wide variety of community cooks and professional cooks this year,” Rawlins explains. “So we start the dinner at 5:30. We’ll serve our last meal at 7:30. We change cooks every half an hour and you’re entertained while you eat, which is really nice.” Rawlins says the money raised this year will go for the finishing touches on the Adventure Playground which opened approximately three months ago after a highly successful fundraising effort. “It’s accessible to people of all abilities and all ages,” Rawlins says. “And that’s always been very important to me. “People with disabilities and people without disabilities need to be able to intermingle and have a good time. There’s spots for parents to sit out of the sun and watch their children. It’s just a neat, neat place.” Rawlins says the money from Vittles and Fiddles will help finish the flooring and put up a picket fence. Rawlins says the center serves more than 1600 people every week. Music for the event is provided by the Bridgerland Folk Music Society with dancing available from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Tickets for Vittles and Fiddles are $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12. Tickets are available at the door at the Whittier Community Center, located at 290 North 400 East in Logan.
