It may sound like a broken record, but the air quality in Northern Utah is again among the worst in the nation.According to the
<a href=”http://www.airnow.gov”>EPA’s Air Quality Web site</a>
, the five worst areas in the nation for air quality Monday morning were Logan, Ogden, Provo, Salt Lake City and Washakie Reservation, Utah. The Salt Lake Tribune reported Sunday that Salt Lake City’s air quality index was 142, compared with a 70 for New York City and a 67 for Chicago. Early Monday morning, current figures were unavailable both on the EPA’s Web site and Utah’s air quality site.Still, the Bear River Health Department has declared Monday a red air day, and the valley was under a red air alert for most of the weekend. That means wood burning is prohibited, residents should decrease driving and use public transportation when possible, and those who are in sensitive health groups or are disturbed by poor air quality should attempt to remain indoors as much as possible.A snow storm Tuesday night through Thursday is expected to bring some air quality relief to the valley.
