The Lewiston Library is one of four Utah libraries who are among the nation’s top-rated “America’s Star Libraries” listed on the Library Journal’s Index of Public Library Service for 2009.The Salt Lake City Public Library and the Milford Public Library also received the highest rating of five stars and the Mount Pleasant Public Library earned a three-star rating. Lewiston’s main librarian, Chris Martinez, was excited about the recognition and she says the library’s small staff, Lewiston City and all its citizens should be proud.”It’s a small library, a community library,” Martinez says. “People from Trenton, Clarkston, Cornish, Cove come to the library.”Martinez says the library gets such a high rating because of its appeal to multiple communities and how it’s used. “It gets high usage,” she says. “For instance the Internet is very popular. People are looking for jobs, contacting their families. We also check out lots of books.”Martinez says the Lewiston Library works closely with the Bookmobile and if someone requests a title the library does not have she is able to get it through the inter-library loan system.
