RANDOLPH, Utah (AP) – A Utah lawmaker is trying to work out a policy to legally protect emergency responders who cross state lines. The effort by Republican state Sen. Lyle Hillyard comes after Rich County and Sheriff Dale Stacey were sued after a pursuit of a drunk-driving suspect into Bear Lake County, Idaho ended in a crash and serious injury of a bystander in 1999. An Idaho Supreme Court ruling says Idaho law doesn’t cover personnel from other states.
