Cache Community Food Pantry Director Matt Whittaker is saying thank you to six local credit unions who formally announced Thursday that they will help the pantry with its increased needs. The credit union branches will serve as donation locations so people can take their food items to any of those branches.Whittaker says more help is coming through a statewide food drive scheduled for December 5th. “The announcements will be read over the pulpits of local churches,” Whittaker says, “and they will organize it and go around and collect.”The food that is collected is set to be dropped off next Saturday. Whittaker says these churches and their congregations always do a good job organizing these food drives. “That is one of the best food drives we have,” Whittaker continues. “It’s very well received by the community. It brings in a lot of food and fills us right up. That food that we get there will last me about four months.”Right now, Whittaker has an urgent plea out for turkeys to help those in need have a good Thanksgiving dinner. He says the turkey donations have been coming in slower than last year but he has faith that local people will come through.
