With increased demand, food pantry seeking help

The Cache Community Food Pantry has put out a plea for turkeys: about 400 turkeys for Thanksgiving and another 400 turkeys for Christmas.Pantry Director Matt Whittaker says a lot of people are struggling financially right now and the number of families picking up food from the food pantry has increased by about 40 percent. He says hopefully those in need won’t go without a good holiday dinner.”I’m expecting about 250 families coming down here, directly here to receive a turkey,” Whittaker says. Whittaker also says the food pantry will serve even more people than that by delivering food. “We also try to distribute some turkeys out to some of the other agencies that we serve, and those are senior centers, they’ll give some to their clients, some handicap facilities so that they can actually take some turkeys and cook them and make turkey dinners for their clients and recipients, as well.”Whittaker is encouraging individuals or businesses willing to donate turkeys or perhaps a ham to bring them to the pantry located at 359 South Main in Logan.Whittaker has also announced a major food drive for Saturday, December 5th to help the food pantry replenish its shelves. He says bags will be dropped off prior to that date or you can bring the bag into the pantry. Items that would make for a nice Thanksgiving dinner include cranberry sauce, potatoes, stuffing, butter, seasonings, canned vegetables, etc.
