Shareholders in the Logan-Hyde Park-Smithfield Canal Company are encouraged to attend an important meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the North Park Elementary auditorium, 2800 North 800 East in North Logan.”We’re going to be having a meeting for the shareholders to come to,” canal company president Keith Meikle explains, “to become informed of the possible renovation and construction project that will be affecting the canal and give the shareholders an opportunity to vote their will as to what they would have the canal company do in the future.”Meikle says tonight’s meeting is for information gathering and shareholders will vote November 11th on a major canal-piping project.Some people are opposed to the proposed project and say it wold be a waste of federal funding. They also say the funds set aside by the Federal Highway Fund eight years ago is not enough to complete the project.
