Logan candidates differ on federal funding

Candidates for Logan mayor and municipal council engaged in a two-hour debate Thursday night, sponsored by 610 KVNU and CacheValleyDaily.com with KVNU’s Tyler Riggs as the moderator.One issue that brought out sharp differences between the council candidates was federal funding. Steve Stokes said Logan shold wean itself away from federal funding and said Logan should not be paying $40,000 a year for a Washington, D.C. lobbyist.Holly Daines said the city should continue going after that money because it’s taxpayer money and she said federal money helps fund the transit system, roads and other infrastructure.Incumbent mayor Randy Watts said although he supports a new library and feels it would be good for the economy, it should wait until the economy improves. His challenger Mike Morrill said the existing library should be adequate for many years to come.
