Canal chief to Logan: Thank you

“Logan city from day one came forward with engineering help, public works help of all sorts and then the ultimate calls were made to help the canal by turning any water into the logan-northern easement,”allowing us to run that weird structure through the park.A big thank you came Tuesday night to Logan’s administration and workers for the help and cooperation given at the time of a fatal mudslide on Canyon Road in July.Keith Meikle of the Smithfield-Hyde Park Canal Company said both he and his father, John, who is president of the Logan and Northern Canal Company, arrived at the scene a half hour after the landslide that blew out of the mountain and killed three people and undermined the canal to the point where it broke.”Logan city from day one came forward with engineering help, public works help of all sorts,” Meikle said. The ultimate call, Meikle said, was Logan assisting in transferring water from a higher canal to the lower canal to allow some semblance of normalcy with water transporation.Asked by councilmember Herm Olsen what Logan could do to help in the future, Meikle said a mammoth construction project will soon be started and cooperation will be appreciated where it crosses Logan’s property lines.
