Utah State Soccer Closes Out Non-Conference Play Hosting Idaho State Thursday

LOGAN, Utah — Utah State soccer closes out the non-conference portion of its schedule against Idaho State on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. The match will be the Aggies first at Chuck and Gloria Bell Soccer Field since tying Wyoming on Sept. 6. Utah State holds a 5-4 advantage over Idaho State. The teams met for the first time in 1998 to start the season. The Aggies shut out the Bengals, 2-0, in Logan in that meeting. Ten years later the two teams met in Pocatello to open the 2008 season. Last season was also the season opener for both teams. Idaho State took that match in overtime, 2-1. Forward Erin Salmon scored the Aggies only goal in that match. The Bengals are led by Ashley Jones who has three goals and one assist for seven points. Rachel Strawn is second on the team in points with one goal and four assists for six points. Bailey Williams has played in all eight matches in goal this season. She has allowed 12 goals for a 1.46 goals against average. After starting matches last week against Utah and BYU, senior Lindsey Smart became the Utah State all-time leader in matches started with 74. Sierra Smith (2003-06) was the leader with 73 starts as an Aggie. Smart has started every match of her career at USU. The senior is also the all-time leader in assists with 14. Sophomore striker Shantel Flanary is first on the team in points scored with 12 on five goals and two assists. Junior forward Lauren Hansen is second on the team in points scored with four goals and two assist for 10 points. Flanary is first in game-winning goals with two. Junior Stefani Shiozaki is third on the team in points scored with eight after having only one point her first two seasons. Shiozaki broke through with her first collegiate goal in the tie with Wyoming.
