Utah State Athletics unveils new Steve Mothersell Hall Of Honor

LOGAN, Utah ­ Utah State University’s Athletics Department held a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday, unveiling the newly completed Steve Mothersell Aggie Athletics Hall of Honor.In all, approximately 150 Aggie alumni and friends donated to the 1,800 square-foot Hall of Honor including 115 former student-athletes. The Hall of Honor is housed on the first floor of the Jim and Carol Laub Athletics-Academics Complex, which is located in the north end zone of Romney Stadium.”The Aggie Athletics Hall of Honor is a wonderful celebration of history and heritage,” said USU Director of Athletics Scott Barnes. “The Hall is one of the final pieces in completing the Jim & Carol Laub Athletics-Academics Complex and it makes a strong statement about the value we place in honoring the great achievements of current and former Utah State coaches and student-athletes.” Inside Utah State’s Aggie Athletics Hall of Honor, fans will find various displays and trophy cases celebrating over 100 years of Aggie sports history. Among the items displayed within the venue are trophies from the 1978 national championship volleyball team, and the 1980 and 1981 national championship softball teams. Other items on display include the 1993 Las Vegas Bowl II championship trophy, the 1961 Outland Trophy presented to Merlin Olsen as the nation’s top defensive lineman and a discus donated by L. Jay Silvester from the 1968 Summer Olympics held in Mexico City. As fans tour the Hall of Honor, they will see exhibits displaying Utah State’s 16 current sports, a display honoring its past sports and a display highlighting some “Great Moments” in Aggie Athletics. Fans will also see a display paying tribute to those select few former Aggie Greats who are now members of USU’s Hall of Fame, the most prestigious honor afforded an Aggie athlete.Another key feature within the venue are two interactive video displays that will give fans an opportunity to watch video highlights of “Great Moments” in Aggie Athletics as well as highlights of members of USU’s Hall of Fame. -USU-
