USU testing emergency alert system on Thursday

Utah State University emergency officials will be testing their emergency alert system on Thursday. The system, implemented last year, is designed to send automated phone calls, e-mails and text messages to students, faculty and others associated with USU in the event of a campus emergency or unexpected closure.Thursday’s test will happen at 9 a.m.Students are being encouraged via e-mail to make sure they are signed up to receive the emergency information. Students can sign up by logging into the campus’ access system (access.usu.edu), selecting “personal information,” selecting “view/update emergency alert phone numbers,” and then entering up to five voice and text message numbers. The test notification will come from the telephone number 435-797-7622. Students should program that number into their phones and label it “USU Emergency Alert.” Students are also encouraged to let their friends know about the alert, as well as anyone (such as parents, spouses or roommates) who they’ve entered in as their alert contacts. For more information on the test or the program, log on to the campus safety Web site at www.usu.edu/campussafety or contact Judy Crockett at 797-0807.
