Nineteen percent of Utah State University students have no health insurance. An internal survey of USU’s Student Health and Wellness Center shows that 12 percent of the students are not sure if they have health insurance.Sixteen percent of the students reported that while they don’t have health insurance they pay for all the costs, something that would not be possible if a serious accident or illness should occur. The survey showed that almost eight percent of USU students have employer provided insurance, almost 29 percent are included on their parents’ policy. Dr. Jim Davis, director of the Center, says insurance is not mandatory at USU but he believes it should be.
