LOGAN, Utah Sophomore Liz McArthur recorded a match-high 14 kills to help Utah State to a three-set win (25-13, 25-20, 25-18) against Idaho State here Wednesday night. USU improves to 3-3 with the win and ISU falls to 4-3 with the loss. McArthrur, a sophomore outside hitter from St. George, Utah (Snow Canyon HS) added seven digs in the match and hit a career-high .364 (14-2-33), while sophomore opposite side hitter Emily Kortsen (Hollister, Calif./San Benito HS) added nine kills and a career-high 11 digs, and hit .500 (9-1-16). Utah State also got solid contributions from its three middle blockers as junior Shantell Durrant (American Fork, Utah/American Fork HS) hit .857 (6-0-7), junior Danielle Taylor (Springville, Utah, Springville HS) hit .625 (5-0-8), and junior Katie Astle (Sandy, Utah/Skyline HS) hit .333 (3-1-6). Senior outside hitter Emily Waldron had eight kills and 12 digs to lead Idaho State. Utah State jumped out to a quick 10-4 lead in the first set and coasted to the 12-point win as it hit .516 (16-0-31) and held Idaho State to a .000 (7-7-32) hitting percentage. McArthur paced USU in the opening set with seven kills. Kortsen led USU in the second set with six kills as the Aggies hit .326 (17-3-43) en route to the five-point win. Waldron had six kills for the Bengals in the second set as ISU hit .214 (12-3-42) as a team. Utah State¹s offense dropped off in the third set as it hit just .133 (10-6-30), but it limited ISU to a .094 (10-7-32) hitting percentage to post the seven-point win. Utah State finished the match by hitting .327 (43-9-104) and Idaho State hit .113 (29-17-106). USU also had 7.5 more team blocks (10.5-2.0) and five more digs (54-49) in the match. Utah State will return to action on Friday, Sept. 11 when it plays The Citadel at 4 p.m. (MT) in the Fiesta Bowl Tournament hosted by Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ariz. -USU-
