Police officers take on fire fighters for good cause

The Second Annual Guns ‘N Hoses co-ed slow pitch softball tournament is coming up on Saturday, September 12th and it’s a fundraiser for the Child and Family Support Center.Leigh Dean, the center’s Development Coordinator, says the downturn in the economy has meant a loss of grants and contributions for the organization which has the mission of “Strengthening Families and Protecting Children.”Events like Guns ‘N Hoses help the center raise needed funds on their own while also providing awareness for their services. Dean says the unique fundraiser was a lot of fun last year. “We’re anticipating another successful tournament this year where we’ll have teams from local fire and police departments playing against each other,” Dean said on a recent KVNU Crosstalk Show. The winning team earns bragging rights and a traveling trophy. Dean says there will be food, entertainment and children’s activities. Dean calls it “a great family event.”
