Officials investigating Thursday fire at USU Children’s House

An investigation is continuing into a fire that forced the evacuation of 27 children from the Utah State University on-campus nursery, Children’s House, on Thursday.Logan FIre Chief Mark Meaker said firefighters responded to a call reporting a structure fire at the Children’s House at about 10:15 a.m. He said a small amount of water from inside the day care center was used to extinguish a smoldering fire that was found in a kitchen cabinet.Meaker said the fire was being investigated by the USU Department of Public Safety and state fire marshals. The children inside the home were taken to the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum for holding until they could be transported to the USU Police Department where they were held until parents arrived to take custody.
