Cache County Sheriffs deputies responded to an incident in Hyrum early this morning on a report of a hostage and barricaded man who was armed with a handgun. Deputies, along with two Logan City Police Department officers and three Utah Highway Patrol Deputies, closed all the roads related to the incident’s address.52-year-old Ken Newburn was arrested in the incident and charged with aggravated kidnapping. Newburn is being held in the Cache County Jail.According to sheriff’s officials, barricaded inside the house with Newburn were his girlfriend and her two children. The incident reportedly started after the woman indicated she wanted to end her relationship with Newburn.The Cache Sheriff’s Office SWAT team as well as Sheriff’s Office negotiators responded to the scene. Deputies in full SWAT gear could be seen on Hyrum’s Main Street at about 2 a.m. Tuesday as sheriff’s officials used their vehicles to block off the highway. Shortly after SWAT’s arrival the victim and her two children left the residence in a vehicle and the suspect remained barricaded inside the home.Sheriffs Office negotiators talked with the suspect for approximately two hours and were able to talk him safely out of the home. Once outside, the Sheriffs Office SWAT team took the suspect into custody. The incident was wrapped up by about 2:30 a.m.
